Fort Garland Hands-On History

Join us at the Fort Garland Museum for Hands-on History! Hands-On History provides exciting educational experiences for students (grades 1st through 8th) when they are not in school. We will be offering Winter Break Camp, Spring Friday Classes, Spring Break Camp, Summer Camp, and Fall Friday Classes.

Who: Kids 1st through 7th grades

When: Fridays January 30 to April 24, 2026., 8:00 am- 4:00 pm

Where: Fort Garland Museum, 29477 CO-159, Fort Garland, CO 81133.

Cost: $300 for the semester

Register today and receive automatic tuition assistance up to 70% off total tuition.

  • 10%- Early Bird Registration (automatically applied through January 9, 2026)

  • 20%- Multiple Children Enrolled (automatically applied) 

  • 10%- History Colorado Member or 4th Grade History Buffs

  • 10%- Educator/First Responder/Military

  • 10%- Past Hands-on History Enrollment (must have enrolled in a past program in the last 6 months)

  • 20%- History Colorado Staff or Volunteer

  • 40%- For families that qualify for Free and Reduced Lunches

  • 20% off for families enrolling more than one child

Do you or a family member work in agriculture? Have you moved in the last 3 years? If the answer is Yes, your child(ren) may qualify to attend for free. Please contact Antonia Ortiz at antonia.ortiz@state.co.us for more details.

The total estimated tuition will not reflect all of your qualifying discounts until a staff member has reviewed your registration and sent out a final invoice through a separate email. Your payment is not due at the time of registration.

Travel back in time to explore the rich history of the San Luis Valley. Courage, conflict, community, and adventure await you in the tales of the frontier of the past with History and Heritage!

Snack Factory

Get ready to mix, mash, and munch at Snack Factory—the coolest (and yummiest) class in town! Dive into hands-on fun, making colorful, healthy snacks. From ancient grains to modern treats, we’ll explore how people around the world have snacked through the ages. This class is perfect for young foodies with big imaginations—let’s turn snack time into party time! 

Get Your Move On! Intro to Martial Arts

Ready to kick, jump, and power up? Join Get Your Move On: Introduction to Martial Arts and discover the exciting world of martial arts through high-energy games, fun drills, and beginner-friendly moves! Along the way, explore the rich history and traditions of martial arts from around the world. Build confidence, strength, and focus—let’s get moving!

NOTE ABOUT PROGRAM DATES: Classes will be held every Friday throughout the duration of the semester with the exception of March 20, 2026 which coincides with Spring Break.
